How to Prepare for a Psychic Reading: 7 Questions Worth Bringing
The difference between a reading that stays with you and one that evaporates by dinner is usually decided before the call connects. It comes down to what you ask.
The questions below are not magic words. They work because of their shape: they are open, they are about you rather than about someone else, and they can be answered with something other than yes or no.
Seven questions that tend to open something
- What am I not seeing about this situation?: invites the reading to go somewhere you have not already been on your own.
- What is this pattern trying to teach me?: useful when the same kind of relationship or job keeps recurring.
- Where is my energy actually going right now?: people are often surprised by this one.
- What would change if I stopped waiting for permission?: good for anyone stuck between two options.
- What is the cost of staying where I am?: the counterweight to the question everyone asks, which is about leaving.
- Who in my life is draining me, and who is feeding me?: concrete, and usually answerable.
- What is the next right step, not the whole path?: most readings do better with the next move than the whole map.
Three that reliably go nowhere
"When will I meet someone?" invites a date, and dates are the least reliable thing a reading produces. "What is my ex thinking?" asks the advisor to read a person who has not consented to be read, and most good ones will redirect it. "Will I be rich?" is too large to be answered with anything but a platitude.
Each of these can be reshaped. When will I meet someone becomes: what am I doing that keeps me unavailable? What is my ex thinking becomes: what is unfinished for me here? Will I be rich becomes: what is my relationship to money costing me?
Rewriting a question from "what will happen to me" to "what am I doing" is the single change that most improves a reading.
The practical half
- Pick a time when you will not be interrupted. A reading taken in a parked car between errands gets the attention it is given.
- Decide your budget first and say it at the start. It is not awkward; it helps the advisor pace.
- Have your date of birth ready if the reader works with astrology.
- Keep something to write with. You will forget the line that mattered.
- Do not drink first. People think it loosens them up. It mostly makes the notes unreadable.
What to do with what you hear
Give it a few days before deciding what it was worth. Readings often land late. A phrase that seemed generic on the call turns specific on Thursday when something happens that it fits.
That said, late landing is not the same as retrofitting. If you have to work hard to make a reading fit, it did not fit. Honest assessment afterwards is part of the practice, not a betrayal of it.
Common questions
- Should I tell the advisor what I want to talk about?
- Yes. Withholding the topic to test them mostly costs you time. Give the area, hold back the detail, and let them work.
- Is it bad luck to get a second opinion from another reader?
- No. Readers differ, and a second perspective is reasonable. What is worth avoiding is calling several in a row until one tells you what you wanted to hear.
- How often should I get a reading?
- Most people get more from occasional readings around real decisions than from frequent ones. If you are calling weekly about the same unchanged situation, the reading has become the coping mechanism rather than the help.
